Roger's Park Apartment (N Glenwood Ave & W Albion Ave)
I have a deposit down on an apartment at Glenwood and Albion, just a couple blocks from Loyola and the Loyola L stop. We have two days to decide whether or not to sign the lease and I was hoping for some input.
I've read all the threads about Roger's Park (so don't freak out on me for starting a new one, Drover!) and a couple have mentioned Pratt, but I'm looking for more info specific to the area between Loyola and this apartment. I don't plan on spending much time hanging out in the neighborhood, but I also don't want to be scared when I take my dog for a walk at night. It felt really safe while we were there during the morning and afternoon, but we did not have the opportunity to go at night.
I am getting the feeling that this particular part of Roger's Park is safe, but there are so many contradicting answers on here that now I'm nervous! Also, not that it makes too much difference, but we have never lived in a city before so this move is pretty big for us....we would be hugely disappointed to move somewhere dangerous or crappy!
Thanks in advance for any help!

You're pretty close to the campus, so you'll probably be fine, but I would be worried about the shock you'll have from going from no city to Rogers Park. Why did you decide on this area?

My guess is price.
Anyway, to OP: that's one of the better areas of Rogers Park... but it's still Rogers Park. I wouldn't wander too far north of there at night when dog-walking.

Makes sense. As long as you are close to Loyola, you will also have the benefit of Loyola security....so take those night walks near campus if they're a must!

That's the best part of Roger's Park in my opinion. There are some cool houses on the stretch of Glenwood running north for a few blocks from Albion. It starts to get "sketchy" when you get up closer to Morse (further north).

Thanks for all the input. I feel better now knowing that it's not too bad. Drover is right - we decided on RP purely for financial reasons. The same size apt. closer to downtown would have been way out of our budget.
jessiegirl....what do you mean about the shock going from no city to RP? Any more so than going from no city to some of the other neighborhoods?

Well, I meant that Rogers Park is more of a mixture in terms of safety than some others, so that may be a bit different in terms of what you're used to. However, you will be near Loyola, so you'll be fine.

Rogers Park is also quite a dense neighborhood, especially right up against the lake where you'll be. There are neighborhoods in this city that look and feel positively suburban by comparison.

I live on Pratt near Greenview.
It is not the best 'hood, but it's safe, for the most part.
I have never been hassled or harrassed walking my dogs at any hour.
I walk three blocks to the market on Morse for my groceries - again, no biggie.
I don't think it's an unsafe 'hood, but it IS loud - idiots walking through the alleys at all hours screaming, fire trucks careening through the streets all night, high school punks who don't know how to talk in a civilized, normal tone.
