Towed on N Stockton Dr
Has anyone been towed on N Stockton in Lincoln Park before (around 2000 to 2500 block)? I'm new to town and had been parking there for the past few months. Permits are not required. I found out it was towed 2 weeks after the fact (I was out of town), and the impound claimed there was no parking on days of home cubs games. It had been there about 5 days when it was towed (April 19th). I've never seen any sign there, temporary or permanent, before or since. Is it worth trying to fight this?

Well, your argument that you were out of town and left the car on the street will kill it. I was trying to figure out what the ordinance is regarding leaving your car for a certain number of hours without moving it.... I can't find it, but I know for things like street cleaning, they only have to give 24 hours notice.
It doesn't hurt to try to fight it though

Thanks for the info. Apparently 90 other cars were towed from the same area that day. Seems a bit suspicious. I'll definitely try to fight it.

I'd say fight it, if there are no signs.
May be they put out temporary signs like for street cleaning, so try to find if they do.
But as Jessiegirl mentioned, also see if your 'out of town' argument might turn around and hurt you .

I can't find the info either, but I think you can leave a car on the street up to a week. Does that sound right?

I called once to report an abandoned car in front of my apartment. They towed it away that day. I was astounded -- I thought they'd at least put a seven-day warning sticker on the car and then tow it the next week if it hadn't been moved. So apparently, a good way to get back at a neighbor who pisses you off is call the city and tell them his car is abandoned, even if it's only been sitting there for 45 minutes, and they'll come tow it away right now.

Absent a call, I think it depends on the condition of the car.
I once left my car parked on the street for nearly 3 months. No problem. It was broken, but didn't look broken.
However, my car once got a flat tire (street side), and I wasn't using it much, so I was in no hurry to fix it. Within 3 days, it had a warning sticker on it.

Do you have a city sticker and Illinois plates? Were there any tickets written on it also?

No, I'm registered in NY and living in Chicago temporarily (no city sticker either). There weren't any tickets on the car when I got it back.
