I remember when I lived in a townhome. I had the same problem. I heard the fights and the sex. How did I solve the problem? Well I purchased a house and I've never had to deal with those issues again.

Aamert,
Don't worry about these negative responses concerning your sleeping arrangement. There are cruel people in the world who won't understand.

I don't know what I'd do. In selecting a condo or apartment, one of my biggest concerns is how good the sound proofing is.

I live in a large apartment complex, and I hardly ever, if ever, hear my neighbors through the walls/ceiling. They could be having screaming loud sex, and I wouldn't hear it. On the other hand, I grew up in a single family house, and my neighbors then were a serious noise issue.

I didn't say this....I'm in an evil mood.

Buy a cheap tape recorder, record it and anonymously leave the tape recorder on her car.

If I were more evil, I would add the phrase "with the volume turned up" to the end of that sentence.

Not feeling quite that evil.

For what it's worth, I shared a wall with a newlywed fundamentalist Christian couple. I could hear her practicing clunky hymns on the piano and also-- well, you know-- which was particularly surprising considering their denomination. For months I listen to her howling and moaning and couldn't figure out what to do about it.

Then I figured out it was stray cats in the gangway and not her.

I guess that most people didn't rely to this because it can be a touchy subject in knowing how to answer diplomatically without offense to anyone..You best bet is to look it up or get a couple of young people to explain what to you what it means.

Ok, I gottcha. It seems it would mean someone that is disruptive or displays inappropriate behavior. If that's the case, why not just say that? I can see how it could be touchy. It could be thought of as talking badly aobut someone that is African American.

The cats were doing what I thought she and her husband were doing. If they had all switched places-- piano playing cats and lusty fundamentalists-- my apartment actually wouldn't have been as noisy.

Sounds(no pun) like somebody's been gainfully self-employed in the companionship industry. Considering everything else you've descirbed and the current realities of the neighbourhood, it's very unlikely that anything changes if you try to take any actions. What it can get you is an intimate(as well as intimidating) meeting with here managing partner at best. So if you don't want to put up with it the easiest way is to move yourselves.

that is one of the reasons i have not done so.
And also since we share the basement, i have lot more valuable stuff that they have in the basement which i don't intend on having 'disappeared'
