You have a better chance with her than those two though for sure.

Mary Ann Smith is much better than Shiller and Moore, but she's definitely a tough political cookie. She may listen, however. She's been good about moving forward with the "Uptown Entertainment District", which is all in her ward (and thankfully not Shiller's).

Yes, this is true. I put Daley in there for two reasons, number one, it makes for a better attention grabber than "Alderman Schulter", and number two, I assume anything especially nefarious that goes on in Chicago politics has to have his grubby fingerprints on there somewhere. So I didn't think it was too big a stretch.

And this the kind of cynical BS that makes me want to stay away from the political process. I get tired of having to unpack the hyperbole before we can even address the actual issue.

Could you at least explain yourself to me?

In other news, Daley's newphew is making himself a multi-millionaire with tax-payers dollars and no one is prosecuting him. Who wants to bet that Daley isn't getting some of the money his nephew is making? The question is why do so many Chicagoans love Daley while Daley hates the city the most?

I really hope we don't lose places like Shubas and the Hideout. I agree that the music scene is important to Chicago, and the uniqueness would be lost if this were to happen.

Too bad I don't live in the city, otherwise I would be able to vote on this.

I wrote a simple email to my alderman expressing my concern that the ordinance was a bit heavy handed and that it should not be passed until the arts community has a better chance to look it over and properly assess and express the impact it would have. We'll see what happens. Chicago doesn't always have the most progressive attitude toward the arts, but once in awhile the city will surprise me.

I don't care one fig about the supposed political connections some posters on an Internet talkboard claim.
