I have not lived in Chicago during the summer months yet. Does it get pretty hot here or are summers usually mild? The area in Indiana where I'm from usually peaks at about 98 degrees or so but I looked at the averages for Chicago and I only saw a peak of about 89 degrees.

Also, I live on Clark and Diversey (Lakeview). Which beach is the closest to this area?

The nearest beach would be about 5 blocks south and 5 blocks east of you. The north end of the beach is just south of Fullerton Avenue.

Summers vary widely here. It's not uncommon to hit the mid-90s one day and the top out in the mid-70s the next. Last summer was kind of hot, but not unbearable. The summer before that I didn't turn on my air conditioning once. I haven't done it yet this year either, whereas last year we had already hit the 90s by now.

You can hit North Avenue Beach (to the south), or the larger Montrose Beach (to the north and quite a bit further). But you may want to avoid the "Magic Hedge" at Montrose Beach if you're not cruising for anonymous male-on-male encounters... Seriously.

You will find living that close to the lake it acts like an A/C in the summer and a heater in the winter.

Didn't know that about Montrose Beach. And amen for the lake acting as A/C because we don't have central air.

Ummmm I dont know if I would go that far as for it being a heater in the winter. If by heater you mean it keeps the temps about 5 degrees warmer than inland areas with the exception of late at night and thats only until about January then ok. But in the spring it will cause temps to stager some 10-20 degrees behind areas SW of Joliet and Aurora if winds are blowing out of the NE.

I only wish it was more of a heater in the winter than AC in May!! Oy.

If you're at Clark and Diversey, you're really not going to have to worry THAT much about temps over 90 degrees. Maybe happens 10 days a year. I think every other year we get temps above 100 degrees. I always go walking around in it, just for kicks, since it happens quite rarely.
