Default wireless inet providers in chicago

Hallo everybody.

I'm sorry if this question has already been discussed. I moved to Chicago recently (yesterday as a matter of fact). I'd like to get my wireless inet at home. what would be my standard providers? in LA, for example, verizon would be my first choice.

Thanks a lot

rcn, comcast (both cable, depending on what you have in your building)

You can also get yahoo DSL.

I'm not sure about verizon

RCN and Yahoo are not doing wireless at the moment. Verizon and Sprint/Nextel are the two big players right now.

Can't you buy a wireless router and make anything wireless? Or these specific companies wire your for wireless?

I just turned my aunts DSL (yahoo) into wireless....

That's for a local network only. He's talking about WiMax which is basically broadband wireless using the cell phone tower network. You don't need to be near a WiFi router or "hot spot" to use it. You just have to be within cell range. At least, I think that's what he's talking about?
