Okay, I am re-locating to Chicago for a new job...
I know nothing of chicago and am unable to travel back and forth to find out . . .

Anway,
I am looking for an afordable appt. (no more than 1200) and travel time not too bad (30-40 min) to get to Cicero :

I think I found a decent one (based on the internet) at Lakeview Sheridan Tower -"blocks from the lakefront park and Red-line El train (Argyle), an express bus that travels down Lake Shore Drive staight south to Michigan Avenue"

Is this all bull or is this a safe, fun and afordable area? If not, any recommendations?

thank you!!!!!!! Dana

Would you consider living in the suburbs? If not, youre best bet is to post this in the Chicago forum, not Chicago suburbs. Also, how much do you want to spend a month? Do you have a car?

Ok, do you want to take the train to Melrose to work, or drive? And the 30-40 minute travel time you mention, is that by train or car? Also, how much do you want to spend on rent?

While Cicero is a suburb that is immediately west of Chicago, most employment there is sort of industrial. Morton College is a community college that is sort of in south/central Cicero and not particularly conveniently located for a public transit commute from Lakeview: from: 2930 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60657 (415 Fullerton Parkway) to: 3801 S Central Ave, Cicero, IL 60804 - Google Maps

The google estimate on that trip is almost two hours, about 3.5x what it might take to drive the distance...

You will never make the commute from the northside to Cicero in 30-40 minutes. You might get from the northside to the loop (downtown) in that time.

good deal...!!!! to answer a few others...
I have my own car
I don't want to spend over 1200.00 per month on an appt...and I personally think that is a hell of a lot.
I don't want to live in a place that is all elderly or snobbish...I prefer more upbeat, art driven and a younger crowd...

How 'art driven"? Pilsen has some of that. It is a neighbor south west of the Loop that in decades past served as an entry point for Eastern European immigrants but for years has been home to Hispanic immigrants. It is fairly afforbable and many of the Hispanic residents have ties to Cicero. It would be a decent commute.

I am not sure about the description of communitues as "up beat" -- personally I find the under emplyed young crowd of someplace like Wicker Park to be a downer, but I'm a crabby old man...

Check out Logan Square as well, or Ukranian Village. They're in a decent location, fairly safe, and cheap.
