A friend send me more info on this particular project a few months back ...
http://www.134thstreet.com/index.html I grew up in that neighborhood - in Arizona. (Arizona is anything east of Avenue O because, well, that was so far away from everything it was like being in Arizona ... or so my grandparents used to say.)It's a brilliant idea - and one that I hope succeeds beyond their wildest dreams. I'd love to see my old neighborhood BETTER than how it was when I left. |

I'm left to wonder if there's a market for $400K houses in Hegewisch. I don't know that being on Wolf Lake would be enough for me to pay that kind of premium unless my property was literally right on the lakeshore. I guess if nothing else, gas and smokes are a ton cheaper right across the street.

The development is planned for 120 acres, with parks, greenspace & biking trails, a community only pool & fitness center - all within city limits. And with a drive time to downtown is about a 1/2 hour or less. And the South Shore from Hegewisch to Randolph is less than 40. I expect a lot of people to turn up their nose because it's on the south side. Because Lord knows, everything south of Hyde Park is violent, crime ridden and doesn't deserve new development. Kev,
there are actualy a few in Chicago. Not as visable as usual but they are there. |

Where?
All the articles about the south east side park suggest that once that is dismantled, that does it for those inside the City Limits. Newspapers are not always correct, but this would seem easy to check... |

Well there is one in Merrionette Park. Which is right next to the city.

Right, there are lots of little parks tucked along various less desirable location. LaGrange/Countryside has a few, there is another near Hodgkins. There is the one the OP talked about in near DesPlaines. ALL outside CHICAGO City Limits.
Many of the parks that used to exist are gone -- down by Justice that one is much smaller, maybe gone all together. Ditto for the one clinging to the area sandwiched between 294,88, Oak Brook and Elmhurst. |
