Has anybody here seen Lake Calumet up close or even swam in it?
i looked to me like its surrounded by a big chain link fence

It is not swimmable due to the industry. Sure you are not thinking of the lake in the forest preserve? Or even Wolf Lake -- Indiana side has a windsurfing beach...

Lake Calumet is basically the "Port of Chicago". It's a bunch of boat slips, crains, and piles. I don't know why you'd even THINK of swimming in it!

I have accesed it via boat to bass fish (some nice fish hang out there), but if I ever fell in I'd haul a** to the nearest ER room and get a tetnus shot!
I believe the chain link fence is to keep the fish from escaping and looking for cleaner waters.
Yes, mainly industrial and there is a golf course near as well.
