Is it possible to get connected to internet in Metra? Any way, even using mobiles?

I use an Aircard all the time. I have also used a mobile phone via its link capability and even slurped off an occasional open WiFi connection, though reception of WiFi is spotty and more and more people have secured their access points.

I don't know of any commercial firms offering WiMAX to subscribers yet...

So what is mobile broadband using these days?

Whatever the standard.... if you have mobile broadband.... then sure.

Present mobile broadband service is EVDO Rev A on CDMA carriers (Sprint and Verizon) and UMTS/HSDPA on AT&T (GSM carrier). Both have real-world typical download speeds in the 0.5 - 1.5 Mbps range.
