Wow, it's just amazing nobody ever thought of that before. Thanks for waltzing in here from Miami to drop a heaping pile of obvious onto the thread.

Since you apparently have all the answers, maybe you could tell us, when's the last time Daley faced any hint of a well-financed, halfway electable opposition candidate?

There's a reason why voter turnout for local elections hovers around 20%. If there were a "none of the above, give us a slate of non-crappy candidates" option, Daley would have been outta here probably 2 election cycles ago.

You offering?

Seriously though, whatever the price is, I'm not all that concerned. Just like with Ticketmaster/StubHub/etc... the free-market bears what it will bear for entertainment. For a global event that will have as much hype as the Opening Ceremony, tickets going for ten-times that wouldn't surprise me. Is it steep? Is it more than most people can afford? Of course... less than 1% of probably ten-million interested people are going to be able to go. That top 1% can probably afford well more than $1700. (Which is why the scalping market and ticket-brokers will still be getting in on this and making huge margins even at that price.)

Can't get too worked up about ticket-prices for anything really... there's always somebody out there who's more passionate about it than you and is willing to spend more money on it than you are. If you decide it's not worth it for you, that's your personal decision, your (or mine, or whoever's) judgment on it has little or no bearing on the next person's choice.
