Need help finding a place to live in Chicago.
My brother got accepted to Chicago-Kent Law School and we are going up there in 2 weeks to find him a place to live. Chicago-Kent is located in downtown Chicago at 565 West Adams Street, between Clinton and Jefferson Streets. He would like to be kinda close to school. He is looking to spend 800-1200/month for a 1 bedroom 1 bath. He got acccepted to Boston and that is what he was looking to spend there. Could he find an apt. close to school in the downtown area at that price? West Loop or lincoln park are places he has heard of and has talked about living. I found a place called lake street lofts. Does anyone known anything about them? Anybody got any suggestions?
Edit: I just saw the sticky, but any help is greatly appreciated.

1 bedroom? thats huge for 1 person in the city.. tell him to get a studio. at that price he can get a studio in a skyscraper downtown. the good life. but a 1 bedroom at that price is definetly not going to be as good.

I've never heard a 1-bedroom apartment described as "huge" before, even if it is for one person.

There is really no neighborhood where you can't get a 1 br for $1200 or less. The loop is kind of dead at night and there wouldn't be many coffee places open for studying. I'd think Lincoln Park or Wicker Park would be good options for him...
What kind of things will he like to do in his (admittedly little) spare time?

Don't know a ton about Lake Street Lofts. For college students I would recommend the area where Columbia College Chicago, Roosevelt, and Art Institute converge in the south loop/Printer's Row areas. I found all my Chicago Apartments using the Reader online. I know lots of people like Craigslist too.

We are only going to have a day and a half to find him a place so we are trying to find out as much as we can before we go. Lincoln park is probably the main place we will look maybe Wicker park as well. I have found quite a few places on W.Diversity PKY. One place I have found is this OPEN HOUSE - Studios from $895, 1BR from $1,025 - VINTAGE BUILDING. We are also going to try to figure out the public transportation sysytem from that area to his college (Kent Law school). He said he wants to be able to walk to alot of places, but still be in a good safe area. He just got accepted so everything is happening kinda fast.
I really appreciate everyone's comments.

That looks like a nice place. Great area. I would go with the studio though.

It's pretty easy. Walk to the Brown/Purple Line station at Diversey and Sheffield, hop on a train toward downtown, get off at Quincy and walk to school. Reverse order to get home.
