Default 6 Mos Lease Help

I have been searching for a studio apartment in "downtown" chicago and am having very little luck finding a building that wishes to accomodate a 6 mos lease. I will be moving to Chicago from NYC at the end of July and then will be leaving the city in Feb. I feel my price range (high-end 1300 a mos) is quite acceptable however I am having a hard time finding properties. Ideally I would like to live in the River North area however I am unwilling to spend much more than my high-end. If anyone has any suggestions of buildings that accommodate 6 mos leases without charging an extra 200 a mos it would be much appreciated. Also I have been exploring the idea of simply renting a room from somebody in a condo. Is this normal? In NYC this happens all the time. Thanks.

I've looked at Presidential Towers and looks like its somewhat out of the loop and it appears all the newly "remodeled" units are unavailable. Does anyone know if there is a website that post sublet opportunities in the city?

yes, its very normal for people to rent rooms. i dont think finding a 6 mo lease is that difficult to do in chicago. you can try looking at craigslist and talking to the owners of apts or condos...some will work with you...also try apartmentpeople.com, they will take you to different places for rent
