Thoughts of Rogers Park
What are your thoughts on Rogers Park. I live by the post office on Devon in Rogers Park and love it. So diverse, college right there, the 'ghetto plex' there. Ah' and Ethiopian Cuisine. So what's your take on this neighborhood? Just wondering....I haven't been here too long...heh' 4years. Though it sucks, that one cannot smoke at the beaches anymore without being fined...ugh...but there is the Cove!!! haha...

I can say this: two recent daytime murders up there committed in full public view haven't improved my estimation of the neighborhood any.

Rogers Park has surpassed Uptown as the north side neighborhood with the highest crime rate. It has been getting better slowly over the past ten years, but significant changes will take decades.
It's a good place for the ghost of a communist revolutionary, however. Alderman Joe Moore is about the closest you'll get to a communist leader in Chicago outside of 46th ward Alderman Helen Shiller. And I say this as a left-leaning Democrat, not a McCarthy-ist red baiter.

One was at Touhy and Sheridan, the other on Touhy between Paulina and Clark.

Thanks for the info Drover! I'm currently putting in a bid on a property in Uptown (yes, I know!) and if that doesn't work, then one in Rogers Park (I know, I know). No where near that area though.

Wow, this is probably not the best time to be putting in bids anywhere, unless you're planning to stay put for awhile, considering you'll be underwater until the market revives in 2011 or so. Seriously, if you can hold off and rent for at least another year, you'll be in much better shape, even if you do have equity built up from a previous purchase (which will just evaporate in the short term if you purchase now). Just my 2 cents.
