Default Volunteer at 2715 W. Harrison (Harrison & California)

I have a chance to volunteer at Franciscan Outreach Association with the homeless. I would be arriving at 7:15pm - 7:30pm, and should be done within 2-3 hours I am e . What are your thoughts on this location. I know it is in the Lawndale neighborhood and the northeast section is on the border of East Garfield Park - divided by Eisenhower. What are your thoughts? Would it be smart to try and leave this location at around 10m on select nights that I get to choose or would you recommend somewhere else and if so.... which places? Name of the place, address, link to website, or atleast a phone number would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's a pretty sketchy crowd hanging out around that location even during the afternoon. I didn't realize that it's an outreach organization, as opposed to a liquor store, that is attracting the crowd, so it might be OK. The neighborhood gets better rapidly when you get under the rail viaduct a block or two to the east, then to the Western Ave. Blue Line stop. Still, that first block, at least, might be a pretty scary trek late at night.

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone was going to say anything because of it being the dreaded West Side. Thanks for the info - I am going to volunteer anyway. Just wanted to get a basic idea of the neighborhood considering I have never been there before. If I feel comfortable walking around Broadway/Wilson area of Uptown then "hopefully" I will feel comfortable here as well.
