I think you'll be clear until you chang over plates. You can always call city-hall or dmv

If either your drivers license or license plate is registered to Chicago (which is required within 30 days of moving) then yes, you need a city sticker. If you are getting it mid-year, you will have to show proof of when you moved into the city and if it's over 30 days, they can charge you more

If your car is parked on city streets for more than 30 days regardless of where the car is registered you need a sticker. If you can afford it, I would be safe and get one.The dont normally give tickets unless the same cop(s) see you parked in the same area for a long period of time, but they can and once you get one you just lost money by not having the sticker. If you live in a zoned parking area you have to have a resident parking sticker or a guest pass for every day of the month or you will get tickets all the time.

Yes, get one! It's not worth risking the ticket.
Also consider getting Illinois plates. From my experience (grrrr), towing companies like to target cars with out-of-state plates.

Avengerfire is correct. The City spends a lot enforce sticker compliance and make a lot of money on the whole undertaking. The traffic enforcement aides (not just cops) write citations for "no city sticker" too. Very expensive, impossible to dispute.
