But feel free to complain about the new sales tax. Sales tax is one of the most regressive of taxes out there, and now chicago's is the highest out of large cities in the nation. It is shameful.
At the very least, we could follow the lead of new york and not charge sales tax on clothing and footwear up to $110 to stave off the effects of the tax for those of lessor means. While I'm sure that I'll muddle by as I'm pretty solidly middle class and don't have too much difficulty paying my bills, it will affect a lot of people negatively. However, I will be doing a lot more shopping online and in northwest Indiana. Last edited by j33; 07-01-2008 at 09:37 AM.. |

Are there any organized groups out there working to repeal the sales tax hike who could use a donation? And please don't say the Cook County Republican Party, thank you! I do admit that I voted for Peraica in the Cook County Board eleciton, but only after Claypool bit the dust.

Well, I was going to say these guys, but I don't see any sales tax-specific info on their policy page. HEck, I'll plug them anyway. Independent Voters of Illinois Independent Precinct Organization |

All these people complaining about taxes.Do something about it.You guys voted these leaders in, deal with it.The taxes have to go up......85% of the payroll from what I heard this morning ,pays for the salary and bennies of cook county workers.C'mon people do you think 170k salary is enough for stroger to live on.What about all his family and friends that work within cook county. The total combine payroll for them is 2 mil. They need their 6% raises a year.It a slap in the face to ask them for a pay freeze.I also heard LA have double amount of people living in the city but half the aldermen, don't hold me to that. You guys need to cut the fat starting from the top. What about all these city workers getting paid $27 to $40 dollars an hour, plus bennies and retirement funds.A garbageman can't live on $30 a hour. You need 5 guys sitting around watching 3 guys repave the streets. You can't let them watch for free.Someone have to hold the curb up.You chose to live in cook county....now go spend some money...the city need you.
