Why not make Sears have supercenter stores like their partner Kmart?
Until that day, I'll go to Ultra Foods.

For South Loop dwellers; the Dominicks at Archer and Ashland is FAR better than the one at Roosevelt and Canal.

Chicago's grocery shopping TOTALLY SUCKS compared to Houston's Grocery Shopping! They have SUPERWALMARTS in Houston with tons of food and cheap prices! Kroger and HEB there are ok too! If I were rich, I'd live in two cities! Chicago in May to November and Houston in December to April! So no Chicago Winters and no Houston Hurricanes or Ultra Hot and Humid summers!

I disagree.

While I really like HEB, especially in the manner that they tailor their grocery stores to the particular neighborhood, they are more expensive than Jewel or Dominicks DESPITE being in a low cost market.

The Krogers stores in Houston are well, mediocre.

Fiesta markets are pretty good and are the most fun shop.

What Houston lacks if the extensive number of independent groceries, most of which are much less expensive than the majors. Places like th Ca****'s Markets, Eurofresh, Moo and Oink and the like.

What I will admit is that you cannot get a brisket in Chicago for anywhere near the price that you will get in Houston.

There are large placards outside both Jewel and Dominick's that state that they are a union shop.

The mayor's fight against WalMart has been extensively reported on in the various local papers and news sources.

I have to ask, though: is there a Piggly Wiggly in Chicagoland? I've heard that it's both Midwestern and Southern, but perhaps more the latter..
Two comments:

1) SuperValu owns both Shaw's and Jewel/Osco.

2) Piggly Wiggly has several stores in the Chicagoland area (Algonquin and Gurnee) but they have closed in the last five years. There are some stores located in Wisconsin.

It hasn't been the mayor's fight. The one leading the anti-Wal-Mart charge is Joe Moore. Daley has mostly stayed on the sidelines specifically with regards to the Wal-Mart fight, but he has shown his willingness to stand up to the unions when he vetoed that stupid "big-box-fair-wage" ordinance. And that wasn't easy either -- it passed the first time with enough votes to override his veto; he was only able to sustain his own veto by lobbying a couple of the aldermen to change their minds and not vote for an override.
