Angry The Wild West comes to Roscoe Village...

So I'm on one of my insomniac drives around town, listening to the radio just in time to hear five pops in the vicinity of Belmont and Oakley. I thought it was smartass kids lighting off fireworks what with the 4th coming up and all. Within minutes I see 58 cop cars streaming toward the area I had just pulled away from. Turns out it was smartass kids (or adults maybe) shooting a police officer. Happened on the corner of Belmont/Clybourn/Western right by that big ol' police station. I saw him (may have been a her) being strapped to a gurney. Fun times in the city.

I guess the "she" I saw was the shooter who herself was also shot. Latest news is the cop didn't make it.

Meanwhile, two stabbings at CTA stations last night -- at the State/Van Buren station and the Lawrence station.

This is going to be a long summer.

Any info on the Lawrence CTA station stabbing? Drover, did you hear that on the radio? I had some trouble with an ex-Marine Viet Nam vet last night in the area, and I would't be surprised if he was somehow involved since he was extremely violent in his behavior.

The article on this is pretty bare bones. they don't know who he is, where or why he was stabbed or what condition he's in. From the trib: 2 men found stabbed at CTA stations -- chicagotribune.com (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/blotter/chi-cta-stabbings-web-jul03,0,520040.story - broken link)

I am glad you were OK Lookout and that your confrontation with this guy didn't escalate too severely. I'd tell the cops about him if I were you.

Cops were called. He was obviously mentally ill and drunk, and threatening everyone around him that he didn't like the look of. He tried to steal a pitcher of beer from my sidewalk table and threatened us. I was with my wife and baby, so it was a little scary. The police just drove by every 60 seconds after that, but they didn't pick him up--which really ticked me off.
