It was the one on Sheridan. Sigh. Awareness is key

I have friends who live just off of Winthrop on Bryn Mawr. It seems like a great neighborhood. (In fact we ate at a great Mexican restaurant right on the corner there.) I thought Edgewater was pretty safe.

Why is there such a problem with rape in those 2 neighborhoods? Are women getting attacked in their homes? That's so scary!

Edgewater is fine. Sh*t happens. I have a three-point philosophy with this stuff:

1) Always be aware of your surroundings.
2) Don't do anything stupid.
3) Provided you can follow the first two precepts, don't spend your time worrying about crime.

It's always served me well. 'Course I'm a man, so I don't have to worry about rape...but still.

Wow...this is what happens when I'm forced to move, but I guess if I still lived in Rogers Park, I could have been raped, too...

EDIT: Wait a minute, when were these people outside? I knew better than to stay out late as hell.

Edgewater & Roger Park are considered below or average when it comes to crime in the city(Chicago). Look at it this way even though Rogers park & Edgewater is consider a little rough/sketchy by Northside standards, but those neighborhoods are considered an upgrade/approvement compare to some of the westside & southside neighborhoods.

It is not really off topic.

Devon to the South. Ridge to the West.

I don't know where you get the idea that Edgewater is "below or average" when it comes to crime in Chicago. Edgewater has one slightly problematic strip. Most of Edgewater is as pristine as Chicago gets, complete with million-dollar homes and one of the most vaunted nightlife districts in the city.

Even Rogers Park is probably above average, though it's easy for Northsiders to lose sight of the fact since it's one of the most troublesome neighborhoods on the North side. So yeah, it's well below average by North side standards... but there are at least a few hundred thousand people on the South and West sides who wished they lived in a neighborhood as relatively calm as RP.
