I saw that and commented on the WI boards. What a ridiculous thing for that guy to say.

The term "Rust Belt"...
...is really more of a reflection on the type of industry; with the emphasis on autos and steel, the Midwest has developed a reputation based upon "rust". The East Coast had some of these industries, but not to the same extent (you'd find more textile, shoe or electronic types of industry here).
Chicago has adapted to the new economy; indeed, because of its size and importance, it was bound to. Other cities, such as Detroit, are having problems because of their dependence upon one type of industry.
When I lived in Wisconsin (Madison), I spent time in Milwaukee; the view of Lake Michigan from the North side, Whitefish Bay and Shorewood is fantastic. The city itself is decent enough, and I often thought of it as being a smaller version of Chicago. But I feel that the rivalry is a bit one-sided, and Chicago casts a big shadow over the entire region, including Milwaukee.

Actually, no it's not a real reason to hate people from insert city here, ...because some anonymous person out of a gazillion on an internet message board made posts you didn't like. A better conclusion would be to dislike that particular poster. I don't hate Chicago and I've read plenty of comments that aren't flattering by Chicago forum posters.

S-connie is a nice place
People from Milwaukee are generally, nice , solid mid-westerners. Just about all Wi-ites I meet are decent people. Stereotypical attitiudes may be that our neighbors are "cheese-head" country bumpkins and we Chicago-land types are uber-stressed, latte swigging neurotics (FIB'ers). I think Wi-ites are decent folk, with nice cities, beautiful country-side and are nice enough to share their outdoor resources/state parks with us. It's not their fault they are brain-washed into being Packer fans. I just wish their nefarious plot to infiltrate this odd infliction on those living south of the border would finally stop. What's next, a tavern and cheese shop on every chicago-land corner? (just kidding, dill chesse curds are awesome and Sprecher Beer is top-notch)

Ever heard of a joke and/or sarcasm?
I have been to Milwaukee many times. I have never said it was bad on this forum.
I was joking.

Wisconsinites are a great bunch overall. They are down to earth and friendly midwesterners (unless you say stuff to them like the #2 post on this forum) Upper Wisconsin gets a bad rap as being too redneck but that's wrong. We travel to upper WI quite a bit and stay at a resort owned by some native folks. They are always more than helpful with everything we need and go out of their way. As I said, if a Chicagoan has any class they wouldn't go around saying stuff like "we write thier paychecks"or "we keep their housing market afloat" There are millions of residents in WI who are hard working and like to play hard as well. And they make some damn good beer up here besides Miller!

Most Chicagoans secretly love Milwaukee, as it gives them a chance to talk about how superior Chicago is, knowing there isn't much Milwaukee can say back, because it's much smaller. I think the fact that some people from Chicago really put Milwaukee down in a real big way at times, shows in fact, how midwestern the Chicagoans can be.
Can you really picture someone in NYC talking about how great NYC is...because it has more going on than Baltimore? I doubt it.

Philly is only about 90 miles from NYC (exactly the same distance as Milwaukee to Chicago). Check out these ratio's here that show the population comparison between the two sets of cities:
NYC = 8,274,527 people, the largest city in the USA
Philly = 1,449,634 people, 6th largest city in the USA
Chicago = 2,836,659 people, 3rd largest city in the USA
Milwaukee = 602,191 people, 23rd largest city in the USA
If you divide the population sets, you'll see that
NYC has 5.71 times the population of Philly
Chicago has 4.71 times the population of Milwaukee
And just for kicks, NYC has 2.92 times the population of Chicago.
So in fact there's a greater difference in sheer population between NYC & Philly (a very large city in its own right), and Chicago & Milwaukee. Pretty interesting, eh?

Again... I don't see many Chicagoans saying anything negative about MKE... This is kind of a straw man.
