Ok not trying to be a smart ass here, but what is reasonable? For someone coming from Iowa for instance reasonable is $500 a mo for a one bed one bath, and someone coming from Midtown Manhattan; reasonable is $2000 a mo for the same place.

Sorry, My first time on this thing. Reasonable to me is 1000 - 1300. Is this even possible in a good neighborhood?

There are many many apartments available in that range in all but the ritziest of neighborhoods.
I have a 2 bedroom 1 bath in a trendy and safe neighborhood (Wicker Park) for $1195, and I've seen many a cheaper one too.

That was my range too when I moved to Chi a few months ago. The neighborhood part was the most flexible for me, the hard part was finding something in that range with all the things I wanted... w/d, parking for me and my friends when they visit, windows, a bedroom (not studio) and a nice bathroom.... and a "decent" neighborhood. The more things you can go without (if you have no car, no w/d in unit, etc) the more options you'll have. I skipped Lakeview, South Loop and Bucktown (trendier/"nicer") because I could never find a parking space even simply to look at the places let alone trying to visit people. I settled on a condo rental in the edge of Chinatown - not the kind of neighborhood I'd call "nice" in terms of visuals (very industrial looking), but its quiet, very close to public transportation and my job (downtown), and street parking is plentiful and free. Not sure if I'd recommend it (I'm from Detroit so a little trash on the curb doesn't scare me), but I can say works well for me.

Very few rentals in this city will have a W/D in unit unless you can spend big bucks. A lot apartments I have seen have a common W/D in the basement.
As for the car thing: I have permitted street parking (which meas you can only park on my street at night if you live there or have a guest pass from someone who does) and I have never had problems finding a spot on my street - and guests had no problem either.
