Default Best I-94 detour around Chicago

I love Chicago, but if I'm not stopping there, I'd rather not drive through it. What is the best alternate route to avoid the traffic and tolls when driving cross-country on I-94.

Thanks.

It depends where you are coming from and where you are going to.

More than likely I-80 would suit your needs. At least once you get into Illinois...

Or take 80 to 39. Take 39 right back into 94 without any tolls in Illinois or Wisconsin instead of tolls on 294...

Actually you will get nicked for one toll at the South Beloit plaza if you take this route.

It's also worth mentioning that if you have an EZ-Pass, it will work on Illinois tollways.
