Is Chicago more "Gotham City" than New York? Apparently the makers of The Dark Knight think so, as does the New York-based illustrator of the comic books.

Gotham City? Looks like Chicago - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/07/21/mondaymoviebuzz.chicago.ap/index.html - broken link)

Perhaps with the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, we can look forward to more Batman movies being filmed here! I'm glad they're not trying to pass Chicago off as New York like they did in the Spiderman movies.

In the scene where the media was screaming about crime in their city, I did get the irony of the situation for sure. Chicago feels more Gotham than it has in the last few years... but at least we don't have any psychotic make-up wearing criminals on the loose.. that I know of.

True, but someone did rob a bank on Michigan Ave. yesterday and Blago did threaten to call in the national guard.

... all the real 'jokers' are hiding out in city hall.

The CNN article posted in the link addresses this issue. Thanks.

Well if it was not before it sure is now.

Gotham in the comics and novels was always a mixture of NYC and Chicago.

Since the late 90's at least, Gotham in the novels has been way closer to Chicago than NYC.

Since the 70s in the comic books, according to that article! I think that's pretty cool, even though Gotham City is known for dark alleys and crime.
