Default Please Help Me Get to the Retro Roscoe Festival

First time coming to Chicago (live in Grand Rapids Michigan) staying in a hotel in Downers Grove. Plan on taking the train (Metra) in to Union Station now I'm lost as to how to get the the Festival at 2000 W. Roscoe. Do I bus? Take the L? I have a very limited budget for my trip & time is NOT a factor. Can someone tell me what I need to do after I get to Union Station. Where do I go (specifically) to wind up on Roscoe Street also what the fees may be if you know that as well.

Also, any ideas of what my husband and I can do CHEAP in Chicago, we are just milling around the city for a couple days on our anniversary, not looking to see all the "traditional tourist sites" just neat places to wander around at. Just let me know how to get there.

Thanks

I will try to come up with something, but can I ask how you decided on staying in Downers Grove?

This is how I would do it:

From Union Station walk to the Brown Line (Quincy Station is closest). Take the Brown Line north to Addison. Walk south and west from the Addison station to Damen and Roscoe (probably a ten minute walk).

Piece of cake! The Brown Line only runs one direction when you're downtown (it loops around and heads north). When you get back on the train at Addison, just make sure you get on one that says "Loop" instead of "Kimball".

That is pretty good, but it is not really worth the time, money, and aggravation spent going back and forth to Chicago.

Take no offense, but I wish you would have came on here earlier.

You would have been better off staying at the Heart of Chicago motel!

Quincy and Wells. If you walk east from Union Station, you'll see the elevated tracks. If you find yourself closer to the station at Washington, that's cool too.

Thing is they have to watch out how late they are leaving the fest if they go Sunday as the Brown Line's last train to the Loop from Addison leaves Addison at 11:50pm and 12:22pm on Saturdays.
