No love for the Southside
I been living in the Chicago south suburbs all my life now and it seems like the southside is struggling alot with drawing tourists, retail, and new comers to the city's southside. For the southside to cover 60% of Chicago land area, it is lacking in nightlife, retail, diversity, and safe neighborhoods. There is hardly anything to do for people to have fun and entertainment on the southside. When people talk about how cool and clean Chicago is they really are saying downtown and the Northside. Do you think there is a possible way for the city to create a Northside atmosphere on the Southside or the southside always going to be the forgotten part of town ?

Well i think because it is lacking safe neighborhoods and diversity is why the nightlife and retail places suck.

Yeah there is,but not in Harvey ........... First we can start off by having more of a free activity event, children base events,and/or start cleaning the south side up a bit. The south side is very open to certain things just as the north side. Our most safest neighborhoods are : Hyde Park, Beverly, and maybe Homewood and Flossmoore Just my opinion

Forgive me if I'm wrong, I don't live in chicago yet but will soon, isn't Lincoln Park, I'm assuming that would count as good nightlife and retail places also not diverse? wiki says it's demographics are
White 84.5%
Black 5.17%
Hispanic 5.06%
Asian 3.61%
Other 1.67%

Things are gradually growing south, tho I doubt it will make it to the burbs..... 8 years ago the loop was still a bit sketchy, and the south loop was a real concern. Now I see more development in the south loop than streeterville. The expansion has to start somewhere.....
And with google maps publishing images like this all over the web, the problem perpetuates.

Ok, Lincoln Park maybe not all that diverse, but overrall the Northside is the most diverse part of the city. On the southside, I can go for miles with only seeing one race of people.

Google street maps were accumulated by vans driving through the city filming. The film was then chopped up by block. Google's cameraman was just in the wrong place at the right time.
