That second storm was awesome! I liked the lightning better than the first. Sat on my porch in Uptown and watched for about 20 minutes. LOTS of rain.

Geez... I thought it would never end.

I like my storms intense but brief.

I remember one storm system that lasted about 24 hours back in 2000... It was hellish...

I still remember the Plainfield "tornado alley" era storms (early 90s). Those were some scary ones.

That was probably the fastest moving storm Ive ever seen. Holy crap did that garbage come out of nowhere or what?!?!?! In 5 minutes time it went from gray skies, to dark gray, to black, to green, then sirens sounded, intense lightning, decently high winds, rain, then nothing but drizzle and a sunset. I looked East as it moved towards you guys and hot dang was that storm DARK and HUGE.

Those green skies scare the crap out of me. When I was a kid, I remember green skies like that as neighboring towns got leveled by Tornadoes.

myrc60, like you, I'm not in the Chicago area any more, but I've been more scared here by some of our strong thunderstorms that take out trees and knock out power to some folks. I live on a slab now so end up hiding out in the guest bathroom which is not in a direct line with any windows and has a tub I could hunker down in with a mattress over my head.

I do remember all those fun times down in the basement when I lived in Illinois. Best of luck to you up there. I hear it's been a stormy few days and more to come.

Other than yesterday, not anything serious at all. No storms on the horizon either, just sun, lower temps, drier air. Mmmm
