Most importantly, Chicago's Stephanie won Top Chef.

You're missing the jist of the conversation, food diversity. A previous poster basically said you can't get anything besides McDonald's in Houston which is as offensive as it is incorrect. We have every kind of cuisine in Houston that Chicago has outside of the deep dish pizza, and I admit I did forget the hot dogs. We actually do have both of those here, but not as good as Chicago.

I personally think Barcelona should top that list and Madrid should rank lower than what it does, but just my opinion.

Chicago will undoubtedly get more reviews in magazines, Houston is still a sleeping giant.

The saddest thing is, I saw "Houston" and passed over this thread time after time. It just didn't occur to me to be worthwhile to read. Only just now did I decide to finally skim through it.

I think that is a valid counterpoint to any Chicago bashing.

Great point. It didn't even make it to 6 pages in the Houston forum. Apparently, it bored us to tears more than you.

Better counterpoint to any Houston bashing.

Houston has got us on winter weather, that's about it. I wouldn't be able to stand so much humidity and heat. Plus I don't mind the cold winters.

Houston is just as boring, if not more, when it comes to natural beauty. It's just as flat, and sure, you've got the ocean, but we've got a giant freshwater lake, which is just as great.

Go a few hours north, and we can be skiing on giant hills or sliding down waterslides in The Waterpark Capitol of the World. (aka, the Wisconsin Dells) Go up another few miles and we can be fishing in Door County, and snowmobiling across frozen lakes.

Take a ferry across Lake Michigan and drive up and down the coast, visit the dunes and beaches. See the unique towns and cool lighthouses. Take the bridge up into the UP of Michigan and discover what it has to offer.

You see, the Midwest has more than some people are willing to believe.

Plus, the city has been around, and has been prospering for hundreds of years. Just see what happened with the Chicago Fire. You would think that such a tragedy would leave the city to just die right off, but no! IMO, it was actually one of the best things that happened to this city.

And, not to mention...

Portillo's has got to be the best fast food joint in the world!

Maybe the Midwest does have something more to offer than blue collar jobs and people clinging to their guns and religion. I have not seen it myself.

But let's see you hop a plane and be on a Caribbean beach in two hours or take off on a Caribbean cruise from your port; oh wait you don't have one!

The area around Chicago is flat and ugly. You don't have the forests we do nearby either. And you go deep sea fishing where? What ocean is that?

Many of us in Houston don't mind the summer weather either, I go jogging 3 miles every other day as do thousands of others.

We are just stronger and better than you.

And all the fishing in the world is available in the Midwest, stuff only Texans can dream of. MN and WI and IL and Great Lakes... enough said. And we dont have forests? What stuff are you smoking? Ever heard of a Forest Preserve? If not, look it up, and youll find dozens in the area.

I'll post some pics later, but that is some ugly terrain you showed me. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at your fish/seafood comment.

Gulf of Mexico, enough said! Great Lakes, ROFL. We have more fresh local seafood available then a Midwesterner could ever imagine.

Never heard of Forest Preserve, what is it? It's nowhere near as large or beautiful as The Big Thicket.

You must be on the south side of Chicago smoking something.
