Houston is just as boring, if not more, when it comes to natural beauty. It's just as flat, and sure, you've got the ocean, but we've got a giant freshwater lake, which is just as great.

yeah, both cities are boring when it comes to topography. I actually prefer Chicago's winter to Houston. But I believe Houston has the better Spring. Both cities Fall seasons are equal. Both summers are hot and humid. Houston's is just a bit more extreme. But if it's hot, it's hot. Austin, Steve-O, is usually dryer. They are having one of their hottest summers in a while. But it's usually in the mid 90s with 30% humidity. It is rarely very humid in the months of July and August. Again, it's just this summer.
Both cities have good fishing very close to them. The Gulf Coast is no slouch when it comes to that. Both cities have famous water parks very close to them. Both have hiking areas a few hours from each city. There are many different things you can do a few hours from both areas. Rafting, Surfing, Horse Riding (and I don't mean just walking, I mean riding the horse pretty fast
Most Houstonians have great things to say about Chicago except for the winters. But most admire the urbanity of the city. Houston is younger than Chicago and developed differently. Oh and Houston city, not metro, is not that conservative. In fact, as each year passes, the city becomes more democratic and more liberal. Kerry carried Houston in 2004 but lost the entire metro and county. I believe Gore won Houston as well. Obama will carry Houston quite easily and has a great chance to carry Harris County.

And Chicago's downtown is developing quite rapidly as well. For a while a couple of years ago, Chicago had more high-rise construction projects going up simulataneously than any other American city (even beating out New York and the booming (at that time) high-rise condo craze in Miami). The downtown Chicago of 2012 will be quite a marvel.

No doubt. I just didn't mention Chicago's because it already has a great downtown and skyline. Houston has a pretty good skyline, but it's dead on the street. Oh and BTW, to whomever made that comment about Houston and the loop. Houston does not call their downtown the loop. The loop refers to everything inside Loop 610.

I haven't been in either of those places and I didn't read all the posts but I did read the OP. I really wouldn't consider that bashing, The OP was just expressing their opinion.
I have heard many things about both cities and if I had to make a choice on which of those two I would rather live in, it would be Chicago without hesitation. I can't stand humid heat. I live in North Central Montana and we are really hot and humid right now. I mentioned to someone yesterday how this heat and humidity was killing me and the guy said "this is nothing, you should see what Texas is like in the summer" !

Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn is what I say. People can express what they think. Why should we care if someone is bashing Chicago?
I could care less.
Back to my regular programs..............

Houston is near Galveston, a short car/train ride (in the future) from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas. Chicago is the only big town for 1000s of miles. The entire cultural life of Chicago seems to consist of getting drunk on cold nights. Houston offers lots of museums, arts, etc., in addition to more clubs/bars than you could ever want. Why doesn't it get more love?
Also "natural beauty" isn't the reason - Chicago is cold and bleak most of the year and is just as flat as Houston. Houston is lush and green year-round.
I would put the U.S. cities like this:
L.A. > NY > SF> Houston > Chicago"

Why?
From what I have observed on these boards , there are people who constantly go on other boards to bash other states.
Why?
If your own state is so wonderful why the need to come to an Arizona forum to bash Arizona or another state.
Strange.
