Far be it for me to defend hipsters but I will defend farmers who move to the city. Most of us are descended from farmers ya know and damned near every city family has ancestors who went from the country to the city.

I didn't go over this thread, but after living in Houston, I say Houston is a way better place to live than Chicago! Way better shopping, food, groceries, cheaper housing, no snowy winters, less traffic, and interesting enough as it is the 4th largest city in America vs Chicago's 3rd!
So, Chicago is overrrated, and it has a crappy mayor and city government!

hrrmm... better shopping food and groceries? ... not sure bout that... okay its cheaper, no snow and less traffic... but, most people in the city commute and don't really have to deal with the snow, the cost is factored in for the overall stuff to do. granted hey, if you can't deal with the cold, chicago is not gonna be good for ya.
Personally I don't get that "big city" feel in Houston... I think Houston is competing with LA though in terms of how the cities are.
I.E. SF and Boston are much smaller than Houston, but give that big city feel due to density.
Houston is definitely underrated, but I think a different breed of city than Chicago.

Is it easier for a cross-dresser who equates strange looks with racism/sexism to help her shady boss move unregistered Mercedes Benz in Houston? I imagine it would be, being so close to Mexico.
And if it is, why the hell do you keep seeking ways to come back?

Very true. And in reverse, I'm descended from some farmers who lived in Chicago, and "bought the farm" to escape the gritty city life. It works both ways! Both sides of my family tree go through Chicago at one point or another.
