Yeah, as Steve-o indicates, Men's Fitness admits the selection criteria is not scientific. So why do they bother? Because it sells magazines. Rankings ALWAYS move copy, increase web traffic, etc.
So they put together a shoddy list based on subjective criteria, we hash and rehash it, and they laugh all the way to the bank. Not a bad deal for them.

*edit* It looks like CBC beat me to that comment, and he put it much more eloquently than me!

[mod cut] as far as fat people are concerned, i have not seen many [fat people] there as compared to oklahoma city. infact, i was commenting on that aspect a few times to my aunt and uncle. may be because people walk a lot in chicago, they are not fatty. like in london, people walk too fast and they are not fat coz of that.

Reason: part is off topic, the rest a bit too colorful of language

Lol, people here do seem to walk fast. I like it, though. It makes me walk faster and that's good (and needed) exercise.

That's because they've got places to go...
It's interesting to see the difference between areas where people are walking as a genuine means of transportation and areas where it's more of an aimless stroll....
I guess the same applies to driving.

There are a lot of 'fatties' in AMERICA. Seriously. Chicago is no better or worse. (To be honest, around my neighborhood I RARELY see an obese person. Maybe a little pudge, but certainly not the sort of obesity I see all over the place in, say, the rural South.)

Yeah I never see any fat people in my neighborhood either. Probably because the emo kids are too busy crying and listening to Dashboard to eat.
But it's a valid point that much of the obesity is centered in the poorest neighborhoods. Just look at how expensive fresh fruits and veggies and ground sirloin vs. chuck and it's easy to see why.

I think this is the scariest thing I've ever heard:
Quote:
|
In 1991, only four of 45 states participating in the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System had obesity prevalence rates of 15 to 19 percent and none had obesity prevalence rates greater than 20 percent. By the year 2000, all of the 50 states had obesity prevalence rates of 15 percent or greater, with 35 of the 50 states having obesity prevalence rates as high as 20 percent or greater.
