In my experience the emerging favorite for "sober-up" food is a burrito or tacos.

I need a hangover cure right now that will get rid of hearburn as well. You know you had an early night when you're awake with a hangover already at 3:30 in the morning. Too much beer at the air show!
I wish Superdawg was open right now...

The problem with the chilli dogs they serve up here is two-fold: One, they use chilli with beans in it, which is a big no-no, and two, the hotdog is not a koegel (a unique dog with natural casing skins that has a snappyness to them that no other dog has).
Other Detroit specialties you won't find on this side of the lake:
- Almond Boneless Chicken
- Strohs Ice Cream
- Tubbys
- Thick crust, square pizza (ala Buschemis or Jets)
But then again, Chicago has plenty of its own good regional cuisine (If I ever had to move back to the D, I would miss being able to get a good italian beef sandwich), so it kinda balances out! And ive kinda warmed up to the chicago style dog, too, my favs are superdawg and byrons.

Portillos uses snappy hot-dogs with casings, many Chicago hot dog stands have them. Portillo's chili has beans though.

this was an interesting post. On a recent trip to Detroit (my first & last), my son and I kept seeing all those Coney Island restaurants and were confused. When we thought of Coney Island, we were thinking about the place off NY and so we were wondering if there was a disprportionate amount of NY transplants in Detroit....
how funny.

I have ordered ketchup on my hot dogs all my life, and honestly besides people like my brother, I have never once had a hot dog stand owner or employee say anything to me.
I learned later that putting ketchup on the hot dog is justified (if you don't get relish) since it serves the same sweet and sugary purpose. I think relish is gross. I can barely even look at it.

Looks like the OP did not take our advice and decided to open up shop anyway!
Apparently a Leo's Coney Island is going to open soon near the Brown Line Southport station. ( I did see the sign on the building a few months ago as well as the ad below today.)
New Restaurant hiring all positions
"Chicago (COMING SOON)
View Leo's Coney Island in a larger map
Lakeview/Wrigleyville
3455 N. Southport Ave
Coming Soon
Hours of Operation:
TBA"
Leo's Coney Island
They sure do have a large menu. I might be up to trying some of the stuff on it. The Coney Dog I will not touch however!

Oh man, I love chili dogs. Only way I like a hot dog unless it's thrown on the grill.
Juniors used to have good chili dogs. Lindy's has great chili dogs. Portillo's, Gold Coast Dogs. A&W has what they call a Coney Dog.
Love a kosher dog. Even Ball Park makes em-they're called Grillmaster hotdogs. (Tho I suspect they are just kosher-style)
My bro used to work at Best Kosher, so I am partial to them.

I got bored with the Chicago style dogs when I was like 12. Plus I do not like most of what they put on there anyway.
My family went to Cincinnati for a baseball game and they had the best chili dogs you will ever eat! The bun was similar to a very soft donut without the frosting. It was amazing!
