With that said, she is interested in trying some authentic chicago style pizza before she leaves. Is there anywhere nearby the Hard Rock that she could walk to nearby for some good pizza. We are from LA, so she isn't afraid of the big city and walking around alone, but as you probably know, there isn't much walking here in LA and I know she won't want to schlep half way across the city for a slice of pizza. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to join her on her trip to chicago as I've never been there, but I'm interested in what she thinks about chicago style pizza vs. ny style pizza which we are huge fans of. thanks in advance!

The hard rock hotel is a completely safe 15 minute walk from Gino's East (162 E. Superior), which is a fine representative of chicago deep dish pizza.

Yeah, don't order pan, order stuffed. There's a difference, and "stuffed" is the pizza most people consider "Chicago" pizza. "Pan" is just a regular pizza with a really really thick dough-y crust. You can get that at Pizza Hut anywhere in the country.
I second the Lou Malnati's suggestion. The one on Hubbard and Wells is a much shorter walk than to the Gino's East that has been recommended. I like both Lou's and Gino's and I'd just as soon recommend either, but you might as well save a few blocks' walk and go to Lou's.
I personally can't stand Giordano's stuffed so it's not on my recommendation list. Others disagree.

I dont believe so. I think their (if it is the same one) parent company is involved in other ventures however. I see their trucks from time to time.

Have her get "Pan" Pizza at either.

Lou Malnati's

I just noticed I put "pan pizza" for Gino's East. Tell her to get the stuffed at Gino's East if she goes there. They do not have 'pan." Sorry for the mistake.
However, I think the pan is better than the stuffed at Lou Malnati's.
Let us know how it works out.

For the original poster: If you can wander a bit out of the I-90 corridor a great plavce for pan pizza is Pequod's on Clybourn & Webster. For stuffed I'd go with Bacino's on Lincoln & Webster.

I vote for the Chiago Pizza & Oven Grinder Co. amazing pizza pot pie and a quality setting. The St. V-day massacre supposedly happened in the alley behind the place.
