In comparison to San Francisco, which city would you think is easier to meet people? I only ask because I am considering a move... Thanks!

Kiss off you idiot!!!!!! Youre not worthy to post on this board! GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

j/k

Chicagoans, for the most part, are quite friendly. We're very up front, so if youre not used to that, it might shock/offend you.

Good luck!

It should be easier for you to meet (and connect with) new people in Chicago than SF. From what I hear, although SF is very liberal, many of its residents aren't so open minded about those who disagree with their views (read: Republicans). In Chicago, you'll have a largely Democratic population, but you won't necessarily need to drink the Kool-Aid to fit in and make friends.

rofl steve-o got me there for a sec cause i was watchin tv at the same time hahahahah. im from new york so it shouldn't be a problem =P I'm looking at other major cities that have an art/music scene yet is more relaxed. NYC is is getting way too crowded and I rather just start fresh somewhere when I graduate which is in 2 years. Also, when applying for jobs does it help to have NYC experience? thanks much!

oh and how often do they hold the exam for firefighters? I tried to look for it on the site but it doesn't mention anything about employment opportunities with the Fire Dept.

The first entrance exam in over a decade was held in 2006, and over 25,000 applicants took it. In 1994 there were 34,000 applicants.

Default People in Chicago

I personally lived in the bay area and am now in Chicago. Speaking from personal experience:

1. people in Chicago is definitely more along the lines of "what you see is what you got." San Franciscans are great people, but less straightforward with you. Hello! The la-la land?!

2. Also Chicago people are a tad more friendlier than SF.

3. Chicago is a better place to meet people.

We're not a pleasant lot. We eat our young (and yours too if we can get our hands on the nimble little buggers) for pleasure and for sport.

Well, its not my career, but I would assume if you're a firefighter (or a prospective ff), the opportunity to work in a big city environment like Chicago or NY would be considered the pinnacle. Theres a ton of demands, and very few openings. The test process if really nothing more than a lottery tool: they randomly pick recruits from the pool of those who passed the test.
