Again I will raise the question why is segregation bad? it's not like 1.5 million white people live north of Madison Street and 1.5 million black people live south of Madison Street. The only people who can change segregation is the people that live in segregated areas by moving and if they haven't moved then maybe they don't want to. Maybe people enjoy living next to their kind.

I guess this sums up why Chicago is still segregated.

Well Chicago isn't just segregated by black and whites, like most other U.S cities, but rather by ethnicity (not as much as it used to be though).

Yes that is what I been thinking. Chicago is the most segregated if we go by black/white segregation. Whites are more likely to integrate with Latinos and Asians before blacks. A good example is the Bridgeport neighborhood. While it have a significant amount of Chinese and Mexicans, and listed as one of the most diverse in Chicago, the neighborhood still has very few blacks.

But... But... But they're so much hipper and more enlightened than we are! (Well, at least NYC is--Atlanta, not so much). They have a good daily newspaper! They have an Ivy League school! And cooler boutiques! And Anna Wintour!

Actually here's another website that analyzes the same data set (2000 Census) and comes up with slightly different rankings. Note, metro areas (not cities) are analyzed (although they are using funny definitions of metro areas.)

Given the way the ethnic makeup is changing, the important question moving forward may be who the Latinos are more likely to integrate with.

Interesting - I note that most of the cities near the top are both midwestern and have (or had, as the case may be) a strong industrial/blue collar workforce contingency.

It might depend on the Latino nationality. Puerto Ricans and Dominicans(majority have African ancestry anyway) have a better connection with African American in particular than Mexicans. But then again you have areas like Chicago lawn/Marquette Park that is occupied by both Blacks and Mexicans. Latinos are almost everywhere in Chicagoland
