Everything has shot up tremendously here in NC too. However, I combat that by doing my shopping at Aldi & Sams

(and, groceries in Chicago are cheaper than here)

Actually, groceries have gone up nationwide and, of course, Chicago is always higher....
My groceries were slightly cheaper in Tampa, but that was primarily due to tax differences. On the other hand, in Tampa over the past year, they slowly increased

I like the fact that groceries are taxed at a lower rate here. That's not the way it is everywhere.

yes, 2%. I am STILL shocked when there's only $2 tax on $100 worth of groceries.

Down in Tennessee it's 8.75%. their excuse is they don't have an income tax so a 9.25% sales/8.75% "food" tax evens everything out.

Overall you are still way better off with taxes in Tenn. than IL.
Chicago taxes in specific dwarf Tenn.

Well that all depends. Assuming you don't make a lot of major purchases here, and don't own property or a car... where's the big burden?

Even car taxes aren't that bad here.

There is no city income tax.

It's really not so bad for a lot of people.

Michigan groceries are not taxed at all. One of the many things I am having a hard time getting used to...
