Both are "blue states" with large cities of their own. Minneapolis/St. Paul has a burgeoning gay community, and Milwauke and Madison are relatively gay-friendly places as well. Milwaukee was named the most lesbian-friendly city in the U.S. a few years back, and the city gives benefits to domestic partners.

San Francisco? No. Boston? Yes. I'd say the Chicago gay community is larger than Boston's, and is just as well integrated into normal life.

i have a gay co-worker who seems alright (he's thoughtful, composed, and caring). although is it wrong to assume that a lot of gays are superficial and overly care about appearances? you know the saying that you can't judge a book by its' cover but do a lot of gays do that? i probably wouldn't hang out with a gay guy unless it was in a group (i've done that before). but this is based out of my own insecurities as i am a good looking guy and don't want people to get any ideas (especially women) if it is just me and this obviously gay guy walking down the street. if i beefed up, i wouldn't care about hanging out with gays because i would look so manly it would be obvious that i was straight to most people who go by generalizations in the first place. i know it sounds bad, but you wanted an honest answer.

You don't think the city known at "The gay bay" is gay friendly or a gay mecca? LOL! You have to be kidding me. Ever walk the Warf or many of the streets around the downtown area? Its pretty much all gays walking along out there. What do we have here? Halsted St for a 4 block strech and Belmont for another 4 block strech? ooooohhhhh

You misunderstood my post (due to my own faulty writing, no doubt). I was saying that Chicago is no San Francisco, but probably compares favorably with Boston. Clearly San Francisco and New York are the dual epicenters of U.S. gayness.
I haven't really seen the impact of the Massachusetts gay marriage laws on Boston, however! Perhaps it is now surging in gayness? I spent a lot more time there earlier in the decade before they legalized gay marriage.

You honestly think gays are confined to this small area? 60640 and 60660 are often quoted as two of the "gayest" zip codes in American, and both are pretty far north of Halsted.

Please tell me you are joking. Although if you're not, I shouldn't be surprised.

Clearly you haven't been hanging out in many North Side gyms. Not all gay men are skinny and effeminate. Ever see Ezra Tuaolo or John Amaechi?
