Once upon a time you could get from the Illinois Center to the State of Illinois building without going aboveground. There were plenty of shops and restaurants along the way(particularly off Marshall Fields basement. I've been told that some t=of thetse routes are closed post-9/11

That said, it didn't compare to Toranto's underground city. That was like having Northbrook Court buried in the middle of a city.

Yea, it was about the time they did the rebuild of Wacker. I remember before that it was like a tent-city down there..something else.

I've never personally been to Toronto's underground, but I don't really like the concept. It seems to me that it would kill any above-ground street life.

I also heard this is where that underground scene in "The Blues Brothers" was filmed. I was also told that the homeless stay underground as well. I would imagine it's warmer for them during the winter.

It was shot on Lower Wacker Drive.

I think the Pedway still has a convenience store! It's probably not as exciting as whatever the OP has in mind, though.

Would like to know exactly where's the underground city of Downtown Chicago?

Thanks
Do you mean the new running path on lake shore that will be underground?

Oh yeah! The underground Chicago is PHENOMENAL! It's like London and New York combined x 10! Too bad I can't tell you how to access it though, you need to meet the right crowd for that little secret!

You still can, it's a little tricky, but it's possible. There's still some shopping: a flower shop, multiple convenience stores, 2 bars, a few food joints, starbucks, more.
