This is not including the .3% Real Estate Transfer Tax (in Chicago only) that is only going to the CTA. They expected the total amount from that to be $100 million. I am sure it will be less though with the housing market in the dumps.

The bottom line is the CTA has no shortage of money and they also have no shortage of ways to blow increased funds.

Look on page 3 for some interesting items. Up until this bill was passed CTA WORKERS COULD GET A PARTIAL PENSION AND RETIREMENT HEALTH CARE FOR WORKING 3 YEARS and then leaving! Now they apparently changed it to 10. If people on here wonder why I have said time and time again money has been wasted at the CTA for decades; here is example number 1! Read page 3 entirely for more shocking facts!

Default CTA looking at service cuts this year-Another big surprise. This city is turning into the biggest joke ever

CTA looking at service cuts this year
March 11, 2009 12:41 PM | 1 Comment

CTA officials indicated for the first time today that service cuts are on the table this year to slash a projected $155 million budget deficit.

During a staff presentation to the CTA board, about $80 million worth of possible cost reductions were outlined.

The 11-point strategy focused mostly on internal savings that would not impact bus or rail service or raise fares.

But even if all those cuts were made, it would still leave the transit agency with at least a $75 million budget gap, officials said.

Well maybe but the sad thing about it the transit system in chicago has been in trouble for years when those transits were not. the fact of the matter is that there is heavy mismanagement of funds in the cta system. this is not just a cta issue. this is a CHICAGO issue. everything in chicago is mismanaged and the residents of chicago, and outlying communities, are suffering.

looks like at a $155 million deficit, the CTA is doing a HELL of a lot better than the MBTA which apparently has $8 BILLION in debt!!
