RCN has not been around a long time here. They are building their system from the ground up in many ways. Besides, Chicago only allowed one cable company (the predessesors of Comcast) until rather recently.Think before you speak and do research before making rather ignorant comments. No offense.

I have had both dish and cable and as much as I hate to admit it, as the Comcast commercial jokes around by having the wise old Chinese guy say "who buys a dish in the city of wind?" he is right.
Our weather here wreaks havoc on everything including satelitte dishes. Snow builds up on them in the winter causing loss of signal, in the spring heavy rains and high winds knock them around causing once again, loss of signal, in the summer violent thunderstorms can strike them with lightening causing TV blow outs as well as fires and the dishes themselves have a tendency to become big frisbies in extreme weather such as the violent storms that hit the entire area last Thursday. In the fall the dishes work as leaf collectors once again causing loss of signal, so all that being said, can anyone see why I would NEVER get the dish again?
Comcast is burried cable which is NOT affected by the harsh weather and offers the On Demand stuff which is VERY nice allowing you to watch many movies as well as TV shows for FREE such as MTV's Real World, or Comedy Central's great line up. Even mainstream network TV is on there now as well. (NBC, CBS, FOX)
All in all, even though cable is rather antiquated, it works! And is much less aggravating.

1) Have heard horror stories about using Comcast for phone. unless this is fixed I'd be wary.
2) I had comcast (analog) and just got fed up with lousy reception (which we had, could barely see cbs and nbc, lots of snowy cable channels, and they couldn't fix it), lousy customer service, and outages. Dig cable seemed way too much money, so we went to direct tv and never looked back. Picture is outstanding. Just be prepared, any severe thunderstorm and it will go out for a time (usually 10-15 min until the yellow and red radar blips go away). Normal rain does not affect it. Have not had trouble with snow affecting the signal at all (2 years now). If it's installed in a good position, the dish really shouldn't be moving or flying around.
Anyway, sounds like others have had horror stories with the dish but I love it.

AMPLIFIED Rabbit Ears!
That's what we use, and with an analog and digital tuner in our TV, we get close to 20 channels. All the basics we need for entertainment.
Cost = $29.99 + $0/month
We get crystal clear digital pic on most of those channels.

You might not have a choice depending on where you live. I live the standards are Comcast (never had a problem with them) or RCN.

btw i know you are a ny yankees fan - you can do what i will do next year and get the MLB package so you can still watch all the games. it didn't make sense for me to get it this year, since i would still have to pay $100 for one month of games, but overall it's worth it. and if the yanks keep playing how they have been playing, they'll win the division anyway!!

Internet, cable & land line provider ?(60634)
Looking for the best/affordable internet, cable and land line providers in the Chicago area with the zip code 60634. In Phoenix they have programs called "bundles" where they include everything for one price.
Sincerely,
HSH

Cable TB in Chicago was horrible when I lived there. It was expensive and constantly went out. It was so bad that, when DirecTV came out, I was one of the first ones to get it. I set the dish up on my balconey and got rid of cable. I do not know what cable is like in Chicago now. The system was new in the 80s as Chicago was one of the last major cities to get cable. Cable might be better now. Cable where we live now (GA) is more reliable but I have found that the "bundles" don't really save me. I have DSL from Bellsouth and satellite from Dish Network and cell phone service from T Mobile.
