Those locations aren't just South Side, but they are DEEP South Side. It sounds like they may be worth the drive, however.

There used to be one on Howard in Rogers Park and a couple downtown. I am not sure if they are still there and why they are not listed on the web site.

Yeah they had one on Roosevelt and State, but they closed that down a few years back. There was also an AP Deli in Oak Park on North Ave. in between Naragansett and Ridgeland-that's closed as well. I think they closed those down because they were too overpriced and Chicago has always been an italian beef city (among other foods), but why would someone pay up to $7 for a corned beef when you can pay $3.50-$5 for an italian beef.

Agreed - they carve the corned beef right there and pile it on. Grab a "potato pancake", as well (it's really a deep-fried flat item of potato-goodness than what one would normally think of a potato pancake). I also just stopped by their outpost at Midway Airport waiting for a flight. (BTW, the food choices at Midway are about a billion times better than at O'Hare.)

They're currently located in some of the poorest --and most dangerous-- neighborhoods in Chicago.

Ah well, sounds like the joint on Madison and Western is just as good if not better, and considerably easier to get to from up here than the current A.P. locations.

perhaps, but the original AP Deli is on 107th and Michigan (Roseland) so the roots are definately south side- its been somewhat dangerous in Roseland for years and that still hasn't been enough to keep people away from their corned beef sandwiches
