Hi, I'm moving to chicago and have been told that around the 400 - 600 E 67 st area is fairly ok given my price range (about $750 a month). Can anyone give me some info on the area, whether it is safe /good area, close to amenities, family orientated.

I'm from out of state and looking for some info before coming to chicago to check it out .

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

I beleive that is the south shore area (correct me if Im wrong, I dont know how far east it goes) but some areas are great and some are a little shady but nothing to be too concerened about. You would really have to drive the area to see for yourrself- in day and night. Good luck!

Nope, that's not South Shore. That's where Grand Crossing and Woodlawn meet, and it's not a particularly nice area. And that's too bad because it's one of those areas where it seems most residents have pride in their homes and their community and they're really trying to keep the area afloat and you can tell by driving down the residential side streets. It doesn't look like a bombed-out wreck like some of the worst neighborhoods where you can tell that most people have just given up hope -- this area isn't like those places. But IMO there are still too many knuckleheads around there making life difficult for the good folks. I don't know what your circumstances are and what you're looking for in a neighborhood or in an apartment or where your job will be (if you've lined one up already), so absent all that my first instinct is to advise that you look elsewhere.

Just took a closer look at a map of the area... that's one block away from a public housing project, and not one of the new fancy "mixed-income communities" either. Something to keep in mind.

Honest assessment. I'd say, like none.
