It is funny because when I do not say Chicago when referencing the city;I just call Chicago "home." That is the only "nickname" I have ever used.

Lookout Kid, it seems like someone recently mentioned "City w/Big Shoulders" to me. How did this become one of the nicknames?

A poem by Carl Sandburg.

Chicago

"Hog Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders..."

I always think of the "Big Shoulders" nickname when I come into the City from the west 'burbs on 290. Ever notice how the silhouette of the Sears Tower from that side resembles a masculine square-shouldered figure looming over downtown? Pretty cool.

God I love Chicago.
