Eh. Mostly nondescript high-rises and larger courtyard buildings of varying quality and upkeep. My upstairs neighbors just moved from that area recently. The woman said she didn't feel comfortable walking to and from her car at night around there.

I think Lookout Boy and I have covered this a few times. Do a forum search for Uptown.

I am thinking about buying properties in a condo building called Eastwood by the Lake. It's on the corner of clarendon and wilson, by LA Weiss Hospital. 2 bedrooms go for 249k with all the updates. Sounds like such a deal compared to Lincoln Park. What do you all think?

I would not. Maybe if you are looking for a VERY long term investment, than that is another story...I think 250 is too high for that area however.

I can't think of any compelling reason to spend that much on a 2-bedroom condo in Uptown right now. You can get a 2-bedroom condo in Bowmanville for 50 grand less, be in a better neighborhood, and still only be 3 blocks away from the Clark Street strip through Andersonville:

Is that area that bad? I walked around that block a few times and did not see anything particularly rundown or anything. Plus its one block from marine drive, lake michigan and clarendon park. The highrise next door is called the Covington and seems like a decent building too. I did not spot any public housing or homeless people.

Did you visit the area at night? Uptown at Night is a lot different then Uptown during the day.
I visited a friend last night in Uptown and stayed there past the time the buses run (except the 151), and I definitely noticed a big difference...mainly, no one was walking around at night (as opposed to where I live, where any hours of the night you will see a dozen or more people walking past my place on Broadway). I did see a few panhandlers and people walking around drinking, but I definitely felt less comfortable walking around there then near my home.
Like the saying goes, "You get what you pay for."
