They still do World's Fairs?!? Wow.
Shanghai is a major world city, so is Chicago, I spend more time thinking about how Chicago can become a better place to live (and it's a great place to live as is) than worrying about Forbes lists, or any lists for that matter.

Wow. Hard to argue with that. I will remember that quote as much as I dislike it.

You should see the pics my Aunt took of the roaches from when she lived in China.
I know a couple of people really well that have lived in China, Japan, and Korea. The stories are so horrid I do not think I even want to visit any of those places.

Hongkong and Tokyo are among the cleanest and most advanced cities on earth. I doubt you've visited either of them. Well, you haven't since your source of information is your aunt and a couple of people you know (second hand source = hearsay).

Hong Kong and Tokyo are cities I would live in, but neither are NEW Asian Megacities. They have perhaps already peaked. Shanghai, Dubai, Kuala Lampur, etc. are just hitting full stride--and have ushered in a strange new urbanism that is kind of frightening.

Second. Kunming hosted it in 1999. Kunming is China, southwest of where the big earthquake hit earlier this year.

Well, Shanghai is more of Tokyo's ilk. It was way ahead of Hong Kong through the first half of the past century. But it headed down a different set of rails in 1949 and therefore took big detour.

My father goes to Shanghai at least once a year on business. He said its a putrid nightmare, and based on what Ive seen/heard him talk about, Id have to agree with him. It might be growing like a weed, but its still not desireable to most people. Its an overcrowded, overpolluted, traffic-mess, nightmare according to him.
