Just saw this article on Forbes which names the world's next 10 most influential cities. China has 4 cities on the list, shanghai being number 1.

Some facts about shanghai:

1. Co-host of the 2008 Olympics in China with Beijing
2. GDP of Shanghai $160 billion, one of the world's wealthiest cities.
3. Has twice the amount of skyscrapers of New York, and New York has six times of Chicago
4. Shanghai is the world's busiest cargo port.
5. Host of 2010 World's Fair

There's pretty much no doubt that Asia is 'where it's at' as far as growth and expanding relevance.
I think it was Jim Rogers (I could be wrong...) who said that if he lived in the year 1812, he would've moved to London. If he lived in the year 1912, he would've moved to New York City. In the year 2012, the place to be is east Asia.

I am pretty sure Shanghai becoming an Alpha city would not all of the sudden make Chicago a Beta city. There would just be another Alpha city.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with "taking over Chicago".

Also, the new Asian mega-cities look good on paper, but I'd never want to live in one. Yikes.

You should see the pics my Aunt took of the roaches from when she lived in China.

I know a couple of people really well that have lived in China, Japan, and Korea. The stories are so horrid I do not think I even want to visit any of those places.

What's worse is that they were probably deep-fried and served as a delicacy.

Why buy them? You can do that yourself there are so many roaches in apartments and everywhere else there.
