New to Chicago - how to I find a job?!
I've just recently moved to Chicago (Wicker Park area) and on the very first day I lost my job - the manager/owner said that it wasn't available anymore. I moved here from Denver and now I'm jobless and if something doesn't happen soon I'll also be homeless!
I'm college educated (M.S.), intelligent, enthusiastic, and motivated!
My experience is in the Sport and Mental health industries but I'm willing to do almost anything.
What's the best way to find a job here in Chicago, guys?
Thanks for the help as I really do need it!
**I guess that spelling the words in the title correctly would help!**

Reason: Because I'm anal and the misspelling in the title will aggravate me!

chicago all jobs classifieds - craigslist
So, you moved from Denver to Chicago for a job and on the very first day, the "job wasn't available anymore" ?
Very, very odd... Sounds more like the employer just didn't like you- for whatever reason- after seeing your first day on the job. Did you interview in person for this job prior to moving out here? Or did you take an epic gamble on an 'application alone' for marginal job without any sort of relocation contract? Because if it's the latter, this is why people usually get contracts prior to making a cross country move for a job. This is also precisely why you NEVER want to move across country for a job where the employer isn't covering your relocation expenses... If the move is on their dime, you can bet your butt that they will not hire someone who they will fire the first day.

My degree is in Sport Management but I'm willing to do ANYTHING so long as I can get to work via public transportation.
And Jokaman70 is a combination of my first and last names, and my high school football number.

Craigslist, Monster, Careerbuilder. Chicago Tribune is best newspaper for job ads, but for Eng it can't compete with online boards anymore.
Maybe the Ballys Fitness clubs will hire you? There one near the Elston / Anhland arear going SE of Ashland. One down North Ave in Melrose Park near in the shopping Plaza around 19th St? There are 2 workout clubs in Wicker Park, on North Ave.

Jokaman-- I moved to a new job in a new state and one month into the role they announced the firm was relocating also out of state (to rural area I was uninterested in). I stayed at the new location and new job (that was closing down and moving out) and transitioned within a year to a "new, new" job. I took it as a stepping stone-- it was an odd way of getting to a new state (odd but it worked and that is how life is sometimes-- we humans don't know the end from the beginning).
How about contacting some staffing firms (temp agencies) downtown and get some hours in-- that way- you'll also get to know the city.
You may have legal recourse to recoup your losses by the way. If you want to look into that-- call or visit a few attorneys and show them your offer of employment (written) . Verbal offers are also offers. Obviously- I would not invest much money (if any) in that pursuit because.. according to my one law class-- this sort of claim is hard to win (but possible).
Sometimes you don't get what you want but you can want what you get (: (Things can still turn out well when these loopholes come)
