Be prepared to wait in line. It's been wrapping around the block lately when I've driven by. I love that place, but c'mon man! There's better food to be had with greater convenience.

*edit* the "c'mon man!" was in no way aimed at loren4.

Nice list of moderately-priced restaurants for the faux poor. Genuinely poor people don't eat at establishments where a tip is expected.

Same. I used to love The Olive Tree, but they were gone long before Andersonville got comparatively schmaltzy.

For the record, I love Billy Goat cheeseburgers, and generally load up on the yummy garlic pickles. What I do think are overrated are basically each and every hot dog I've had, no matter how cute or kitschy the hot dog stand (even SuperDawg, which is definitely cute and kitschy). I think ultimately, for me, it's just a matter of being unimpressed with hot dogs in any format. You can only do so much.

It'll be fascinating to see how many people stand in line to get something for free that you could pay 70 cents for at any of the nearby convenience stores, drug stores, and/or snack shops.

I'm a big fan of Taco and Burrito House, especially since their food definitely goes above basic taqueria quality, and is a very great value for their prices. They have multiple locations, including Fullerton/Ashland, and Irving/Broadway.

Taco and Burrito King(aka TBK for short) isn't bad, either. And if you're in the near west suburbs(or northwest burbs), Johnny's Beef is pretty good too, particularly their italian ice.

Someone mentioned Paradise Pup, and that's currently very high on my 'places to go to' list. I definitely trust all the high reviews I've read about it, and sadly just missed their 5pm closing time when I attempted going there a month ago. One day, I'll make it there....
