Lack of selection! I have a pretty ordinary vehicle. Lots of 'em on the road. Places like NTB probably have 10 choices, from some I never heard of to the "big advertiser" tires. Costco had exactly ONE choice. Said they could TRY and order some of the others that I listed, but did not sound like they were gonna try very hard at all.

I called the Tirerack people after checking out their website. The prices were less than half of anybody else. I asked "so what IS THE CATCH" -- no catch really. They just SELL TIRES. No service. No "upgrades". No "inspections". They of course SHIP THEM TO YOU (or a tire installer of your preference), but that was not a hassle for me at all.

Costco is fine it you want the tire they have for your vehicle, but their selection is VERY limited, and tends to be the "higher end" tires, but not super hi performance. I think IF you are a member (about $50/year) it is a good option, but I do not think it is worth joining JUST for the tires, as Tirerack has FAR larger selection.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I went to Ashland Tire and they ordered me some through tirerack. I checked the price online when I got back home and it was the same as it would have been if I ordered it. So, so far they are good. I'll see what happens when they put them on next week. Thanks again!

Ashland is a really good place, they have great service and warranties on tires they install, I think they do free tire rotations if you buy from them.

I got the Continental ContiExtremeContact for $109/tire. That includes mounting and balancing. Which is acutally a little cheaper than I found online for the size I needed.

Another TireRack.com fan here. I've used them twice and they were great. I was in a bind over the summer and needed a tire the same day. I went to Sears Auto Center and the experience was fine.
