I figure if the power goes out, I'll just put all the food outside in the snow.

I really wasn't meaning "what would you stockpile in a storm". I didn't realize everyone was gonna take me so literally. I guess what I was meaning was what would you like to have in your fridge for a cold stormy evening at home. I don't mean everyone should retreat to their bomb shelters or what not. Just good fun people....

I found no reason to rush out whatsoever in anticipation of being "snowbound" because, well, that just doesnt happen around here. And guess what? Im off to the grocery store tonight because the roads are just fine already. I also wouldnt rush out and stock the fridge in case of a rare power outage. The more food in the fridge you have during a power outage, is just more food/money youll have to throw away. We lost power last year overnight (accident took out power), most food was junk. The freezer leaked all over the floor, too. UGH

Soup! I can make a big pot of chicken vegetable or tortellini soup in less than half an hour, and I always have whole wheat rolls in the freezer and bagged salad in the fridge. I'll mix up some oatmeal cookies with chopped dried fruit while the soup simmers, let a few dozen bake while we eat, and then spend the afternoon by the fire with a book, an afghan, a plate of cookies, and some hot tea.

Sorry if I misunderstood. I just thought you were the typical whiny CHicagoan when it comes to winter. You know, part of the the ridiculous, whiny, over-exaggerating crowd.

Me too! Except I'm moving from Austin, and I'm moving into my place in Bucktown next Sunday!
All my family and friends here in Texas and Louisiana think I'm crazy when I say "I'm moving to Chicago for the weather," but it's true. I've spent 21 years living with 80% humidity being the rule rather than the exception, and 100 degree days beginning in March and not stopping until October. I say, bring on the snow and the cold, that's what they make coats and cashmere for!

Some sort of mixer for my Southern Comfort and anything I can throw in the crockpot to make soup/stew. That's enough to get me through a cold, stormy, night.

A couple of pizzas and a case of beer. But then again I always have that in my fridge!
